Fortunately, not only do I love gifts -- I love buying them for others. I have even begun keeping a list when my friends and family comment on that they like, want or need. It makes choosing a gift much easier when you keep a note, mental or physical, of what someone might actually want without having to ask them. It's a beautiful thing to feel like someone really knows you and what you like.
This list, which will be the first of many "Gifts for the ______ in Your Life" is going to focus on the food loving, restaurant going, kitchen gadget connoisseurs in your life, otherwise known as the "Foodies". Being a Foodie myself makes it especially fun to make this list!
1. The Food Bible, otherwise known as Where Chefs Eat ($15)
Go buy Where Chefs Eat 2015
I love Yelp as much as the next guy, but this is Yelp on steroids. Not only does it have high end restaurant choices, it has local favorites from some of the best chefs in the world. It is the Food Bible.
2. A Proper Chef's Knife ($93)
Masaharu Morimoto once said "A kitchen without a knife is not a kitchen", thus all foodies must have a proper chef's knife in their kitchen. Yes, they are a splurge for a utensil per say-- but think about all the meat and veg you can slice through to make that perfect meal? Is it worth it? Of course. To help persuade you more, Anthony Bourdain endorsed Global Knives in his first noteworthy book, Kitchen Confidential.
3. Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain ($12)
Speaking of Mr. Bourdain, if you haven't read Kitchen Confidential yet you must drop everything you are doing and start reading immediately. Bourdain tells the story of his childhood, his love of food and the underbelly of restaurant kitchens. It is vulgar, witty and oozes his trademarked brutal honesty. A must read for any foodie.
4. Le Creuset Dutch Oven ($300)

My mother bought me my first Le Creuset Dutch Oven when I went off to university. I thought it was a bit ridiculous, but she told me that it would prove itself over time-- and it has. It is perfect for making stews, soups, pot roast -- you name it. It is a bit of an investment for a "pot" (so much more than that) but if you value cooking and food (as I hope you do) this will become one of your staples in the kitchen. Your foodie will be able to create some beautiful food with this!
5. An apron for when you don't want to ruin your clothes ($36)

I remember cooking for a Thanksgiving dinner party that I hosted with friends and I was fully dressed in my LBD with a bedtime t-shirt over it all. As practical as this was, I looked absurd-- my friends felt it necessary to snap some photos of it. To avoid such embarrassment and sauce on an outfit, get your Foodie an adorable apron. I'd even wear this apron out of the house if it wasn't, you know, an apron.
6. Cast Iron Skillet ($36)
This is a must for any kitchen, hands down. Coming from Southern women, I've grown up seeing more cast iron skillets than non stick in the house. Now that I'm out on my own, I've finally bought one of my own. They are so versatile and actually get better with use and age! They are great for meats, cornbread, frying things, steaks and the list goes on. A must have for a Foodie who loves to cook.
7. Onion Goggles ($20)
No matter how many times I've chopped onions, I end up crying over them like I just watched the Notebook. Its really pathetic actually. My mother put these in my stocking a few years ago and I still whip them out when I'm chopping lots of onions. If your Foodie has this issue, this is a great little gift. They look super good on too if you couldn't already tell!
Looking dumb in onion goggles > Ruining my mascara
8. A large Marble Cheese Board ($109)
A marble cheese board is a must for Foodie gatherings. The marble is ever so chic and a good cheese selection can cure most all emotional ailments. So once your Foodie has their cheese board, all they need is some cheese (..and prosciutto, wine, crackers, fig jam (delicious right?) olives, fresh fruit, etc etc).
9. Blue Apron, as a gift! ($120)
If you haven't already heard about Blue Apron, let me explain. It is a delivery service that sends pre-proportioned ingredients and recipes to make their ever varying dishes. For $120, you can send your Foodie the 2 person plan to them for 2 weeks. There are 3 meals per week, so your Foodie can still get their favorite take-out and try that new restaurant they've been eyeing.
Total meals: 12
10. A Picture of Cheese... because why not? ($19)
I mean, who wouldn't like to have a print of different cheeses in their kitchen? If the answer is "No, I wouldn't" -- we can't be friends. This cheesy print is made by Lucy Knisley and can be found on Society6.
Cheese > everything
